Well-known Punjabi singer Preet Brar, who was arrested by the Mumbai Police on 20th September 2013 while trying to flee abroad and accused of cheating in a number of cases registered at Mohali, has been sent on a three-day police remand by a local court.
It is not the first of his ilk to have courted controversy. Brar is facing two cheating cases in Kharar and Mohali. The Mohali police has registered a case of cheating and forgery against Brar for allegedly selling the same plot to two people. Preet Brar, who was arrested by Mumbai police and brought back here by Mohali police, was produced in court on Tuesday. The singer, who is also a real estate agent, has been facing a number of criminal cases including that of cheating.
This is the second cheating and counterfeit case against Singer Preet Brar. Earlier this year, a criminal case was registered against Preet Brar and his friends in Kharad police station.
The police said Chander Shekhar, a resident of Kharad area, had got a token money amounting to Rs.51 lakh from Brar who had expressed interest to buy a land measuring eight kanal in 2011. As the deal did not mature, the seller after returning the token money to Brar had sold the land to another local Jarnail Singh. When Jarnail Singh tried to develop the land, four persons contacted him and revealed that Brar had sold the plot to them.
“We have registered a case against Preet Brar and his brother Amrit Pal Singh under Section 420, 120-B and 406 of IPC. No arrests have been made so far. The investigation is on,” a police officer said.
