Honey Singh got relief in case of obscene song lyrics

The Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) Hyderabad has expressed its inability to examine the controversial CDs of songs attributed to Honey Singh, for lack of facilities.

Information in this concerned was provided by the Punjab government on Friday before the Punjab and Haryana high court during the resumed hearing of a petition on the issue. The counsel for the Punjab also produced a letter from Y Surya Prasad, Assistant Director CFSL Hyderabad addressed to SSP Nawanshahar. The letter stated that it is not possible to examine the CDs because this laboratory does not have the facility to authenticate/compare the audio and video files.

Earlier on September 26, the HC had directed central forensic science and laboratory (CFSL) Hyderabad to examine the CD of song "Main Hoon Balatkari' sung by Punjabi rapper Honey Singh. High court has also made it clear that if the CFSL requires, it can also take the voice samples of Honey Singh.

The directions to send the CDs to CFSL were made after the assertions by the CFSL Chandigarh that it is not possible to identify the voice of the person (singer under reference) in CDs due to lack of sufficient characteristic speech samples for comparison.

On May 17 this year, the Nawanshahar police had booked Honey Singh for singing vulgar song. He was booked for under Section 294 (obscene acts and songs to the annoyance of others in public place station) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The case was registered after a local NGO called 'HELP' had approached the Punjab and Haryana high court.

On September 4, Honey Singh had moved a petition before the HC seeking directions to quash the FIR registered against him for singing vulgar songs. 

In this case, the NGO had alleged that the Punjabi rap singer had sung the song "Main hun balatkari". However, Honey Singh had said that he has not sung any such song and he has been framed in this case due to "mistaken identity". He had also stated before the HC that he strongly condemn the lyrics of the song "Main hun balatkari".

The song is existing on "Youtube" since February 2008.
