UK Bhangra veteran Mick St Clair returns with his brand new single ‘Singh Sardaar’ featuring the vocals of Daljit Mattu. Mick St Clair has been a DJ both on the mainstream as well as on the Asian music scene from his childhood and there is no doubt that he was the first Asian DJ in this country.
In the 1980’s the Asian music scene came into its own on the club circuit and Mick was the first and foremost DJ to take the club scene by a storm, performing with artists such as Heera, Alaap, Premi, Apache Indian, DCS, Apna Sangeet, Sahotas, Achanak, Pardesi Music Machine and Azaad, to name but a few.
Mick associated with the crème de le crème of the Asian artists/musicians. He is also a musician in his own right and his biggest hits on the Bhangra circuit were Deep House XTC/Ishq Di Gaddi and Meet the Saint.
He has also done some remix albums for other artists/record labels, including massive hits such as the Bhangra Top 10, Bhangra Top 10 Golden Star and House of Shah (winner of Gold Disc). Mick has a cabinet full of awards to his name as an executive producer and was responsible for hits such as Satrang’s album Bhangra Muffin (winner of Platinum Disc) and Dhol Blasters (winner of Silver Disc).
In 2006 and 2007 Mick released two albums, Loud ‘n’ Proud and Loud ‘n’ Proud 2. He now returns with a single entitled Singh Sardaar, featuring the vocals of Daljit Mattu. The song is about young people who are proud of their heritage and culture, and feel pride in being sardaars. There are three versions of this single, a desi mix (music by Baldev Mastana) a club mix and reggae mix (music by Third Generation Collective).
