Qismat 2018 Movie Review

Qismat is 2018 Punjabi Movie starring Ammy Virk and Sargun Mehta in lead roles. Film is directed by Jagdeep Sidhu and produced by Shri Narotam Ji Production.

Guggu Gill, Tania, Hardeep Gill and Harby Sangha has also acted in the movie apart from Ammy and Sargun. Film is written by Jagdeep Sidhu - director himself.

Songs in the movie are written and composed by Jaani while music is produced by B Praak and SukhE the Muzical Doctorz. All the songs from Qismat movie are already out which includes Kaun Hoyega, Pasand Jatt Di, Awaaz and Gallan Teriyan.

Qismat Critics Reviews

If you are going with expectations that you will be treated to something in the league of Bambukat or even Nikka Zaildar — Ammy Virk’s previous two movies — you will be disappointed.

The tragicomic scenes towards the end of the movie are definitely its high points and save one from emerging out of the theatre with total disappointment. The end part of the movie is the only time you are truly moved and tickled and it comes after a long wait. The romantic drama could have definitely been much shorter than its present length of nearly 2.5 hours.

The only thing that makes the first half bearable is the music. ‘Pasand Jatt Di’ and ‘Gallan Teriya’ are already a hit and even during a short drive, you are likely to catch one or the other on the radio. ‘Kaun Hoyega’ and ‘Fakira’ have been woven well into the script and Jaani and B Praak deserve credit as music directors.

Yet none of the songs of the movie is likely to reach the height of popularity that the 2017 song ‘Qismat badalti…’ had touched. Interestingly, the song, also titled ‘Qismat’ was the begetter of the idea of this movie. However, (spoiler alert) unlike the song, Sargun dies in the movie.

Another problem with the first half of the movie is that it fails to convince the viewer of transformation of friendship between Shiva and Bani into love. The chemistry between the lead pair is not apparent till they are reunited in the story after a gap of two years.

So, if you generally enjoy sitcom genre of comedy and not looking for Shakespearean tragedy or Pythonesque realities of life, go and watch the film.
