The court of duty magistrate in Ludhiana on Sunday extended the police remand of Punjabi singer, Nachhatar Singh Gill, for the third time and this time for one day.
Nachattar Gill, along with three other accused, was booked on June 17 for allegedly raping a model. He was arrested on December 24 and had been given police remand twice since. While two accused – Charandep Singh Channi and Jagdeep Sohi – are under police remand, the third accused, Raja, is absconding and yet to be arrested.
Noted Punjabi singer Nachhatar Gill has been arrested for allegedly raping an aspiring model, Commissioner of Police Nirmal Singh said. The singer was being questioned by the CIA staff for the past two days, said sources. The police said the accused develped physical ties with the girl, promising to help her become a top model and send her abroad. Gill was booked with three others in June under Sections 376,420, 506 and 120-B of the IPC and the IT Act: 2000 for rape, fraud and criminal conspiracy. The victim, a resident of Haibowal, told the police that the singer took her to a hotel in Chandigarh, gave her a drink laced with sedatives and took pictures. The rape victim said that she met the singer during abeauty pageant in Jalandhar in2006 where Gill was one of thejudges. She was adjudged thefirst runners-up. She said at the function, they exchanged mobile numbers and started talking to each other frequently. Soon their friendship became intimate and they would often meet at hotels in Phillaur and Ludhiana. The victim said her ties with the singer turned sour after she questioned him as to why she was not being featured in his music albums. She also alleged that three builders of Ludhiana, who took Rs 20 lakh from her parents on the promise to send her abroad, had also raped her.
